FiveM Fishing Biomes and Species: Complete Configuration Guide (2026)

How to set up distinct fishing biomes, configure fish species with rarity tiers, and create a diverse ecosystem that keeps players exploring your FiveM server.

Why Biomes Matter

A fishing system with one location and one fish type gets boring in 10 minutes. Biomes — distinct fishing zones with unique species — transform fishing from a single activity into an exploration-driven system.

When players know that Coast fishing yields Sea Bass but River fishing has Salmon, they'll travel the map to diversify their catches. This has three powerful effects:

  1. Map utilization — Players visit areas they'd normally ignore
  2. Session length — Traveling between biomes takes time, keeping players online
  3. Social interaction — Players congregate at popular fishing spots, creating RP opportunities

Designing Your Biome Layout

GTA V's map offers excellent natural water features for fishing biomes:

Coast Biome

Best locations: Vespucci Beach, Del Perro Beach, Paleto Bay coast

The coast is your beginner zone. Players start here, learn the mechanics, and catch common species. It should be easily accessible from major spawn points.

Recommended species:

  • Sea Bass (Common) — 60% catch rate
  • Mackerel (Common) — 30% catch rate
  • Red Snapper (Uncommon) — 10% catch rate

River Biome

Best locations: Zancudo River, Cassidy Creek, Raton Canyon

Rivers are your mid-tier zones. They require players to travel away from the city, rewarding exploration with better fish.

Recommended species:

  • Trout (Common) — 50% catch rate
  • Salmon (Uncommon) — 35% catch rate
  • Rainbow Trout (Rare) — 15% catch rate

Lake Biome

Best locations: Alamo Sea, Lago Zancudo edges, the small ponds near Paleto

Lakes offer a mix of common and rare species. Their inland locations mean fewer players fish here, keeping species prices higher in the dynamic market.

Recommended species:

  • Catfish (Common) — 45% catch rate
  • Perch (Uncommon) — 35% catch rate
  • Largemouth Bass (Rare) — 20% catch rate

Pier Biome

Best locations: Del Perro Pier, Los Santos harbor areas, Paleto Bay pier

Piers are social hubs — easily accessible and visually distinct. Great for roleplay scenarios where characters fish together.

Recommended species:

  • Crab (Common) — 50% catch rate
  • Red Snapper (Uncommon) — 30% catch rate
  • Yellowtail (Rare) — 20% catch rate

Open Sea Biome

Best locations: Boat-only access, deep water around the map edges

The endgame zone. Requires a boat, making it the most expensive biome to access. Rewards include legendary species.

Recommended species:

  • Tuna (Uncommon) — 40% catch rate
  • Swordfish (Rare) — 35% catch rate
  • Legendary Tuna (Legendary) — 10% catch rate
  • Giant Squid (Legendary) — 5% catch rate

Species Rarity Design

Rarity tiers need careful balancing:

Common (60-70% of catches)

  • Found in multiple biomes
  • Low base price
  • High supply → prices drop fast in dynamic market
  • Purpose: Give players consistent catches to learn the system

Uncommon (20-25% of catches)

  • Found in 2-3 biomes
  • Moderate base price
  • Moderate supply impact on pricing
  • Purpose: Reward persistence and biome exploration

Rare (8-12% of catches)

  • Found in 1-2 specific biomes
  • High base price
  • Low supply → prices stay elevated
  • Purpose: Create excitement and "rare catch" moments

Legendary (2-5% of catches)

  • Found in one biome only
  • Very high base price
  • Minimal supply → maximum market value
  • Purpose: Create aspirational goals and social media-worthy moments

Species Configuration Example

Here's how a well-configured species list looks:

SpeciesRarityBiomesBase PriceWeight Range

Time and Weather Modifiers

Add depth by making species availability depend on conditions:

Time of Day

  • Dawn (5 AM - 8 AM): +20% catch rate for River species
  • Day (8 AM - 6 PM): Normal rates
  • Dusk (6 PM - 9 PM): +15% catch rate for Coast species
  • Night (9 PM - 5 AM): +30% chance for Rare species, Common species less active

Weather

  • Clear: Normal rates
  • Overcast: +10% overall catch rate
  • Rain: +25% for freshwater species (River, Lake)
  • Storm: Only Legendary species are active, but bite rate is very low

These modifiers reward players who pay attention to in-game conditions and plan their fishing sessions accordingly.

Alone Fishing's Biome System

Alone Fishing ships with all 5 biomes pre-configured:

  • Coast, River, Lake, Pier, and Open Sea with GTA V-accurate locations
  • 11 species distributed across biomes with proper rarity tiers
  • Time and weather modifiers built into the catch system
  • Easy config file to customize locations, species, and catch rates

Changing biome locations is as simple as updating coordinates in the config. Adding new species requires a single config entry — no Lua coding needed.

Tips for Custom Configuration

  1. Don't overload biomes — 3-4 species per biome keeps each zone focused
  2. Spread legendary species — Don't put all rare fish in one biome
  3. Test catch rates — Fish for 30 minutes in each biome; if you never catch a Rare, bump the rate slightly
  4. Consider travel time — Biomes far from spawn should have better rewards
  5. Use the dynamic market — Let pricing do the balancing work for you
